Family GP Doctor
A never talked about perspective is that a good GP is a rare person that has to problem solve a myriad of bio-psycho-social issues for peoples of all demographics, all ages, all races and across an entire life span from birth to death.
There is no other profession that gives a person the breadth and depth of understanding people and their problems and how to fix them like a good GP.
Although the public often see specialist doctors as more esteemed, in my area of medicine that narrow focus is a detriment so I proudly consider myself to be a doctor specialising at being a Generalist. I like to think that I know a heck of a lot about a heck of a lot of things and I'm good at fixing them.
I offer a full range of General Practice medical services and can treat most non-hospital medical conditions. I am happy to provide medical care for your whole family from newborn babies to the elderly, and in general there is almost no medical condition that I can't help you manage. I also offer second opinions on medical problems for those who need another set of eyes on them.
Should you require a referral to a specialist or an allied health professional, you can be assured that I have an experienced knowledge of the best of all the medical services in our surrounding areas and will refer you to the most appropriate person for your health needs.
Additionally, at my current practice, we have a 2 bed treatment room and a full time Registered Nurse which enables me to perform a wide range of minor surgical operations.
With almost 30 years of experience as a Family GP in both rural and urban practices, I pride myself on being able to sort out almost any problem that comes through the door. But I have learnt that being a good GP means not just diagnosing and treating a problem. It is also about managing problems efficiently and cost effectively for my patients.
I always aim to break down complex problems into workable plans and I logically explain how I come to management decisions. I give patient multiple options on management, and most importantly I share how I would handle myself in their situations.
My services include but are not limited to the below list. I have also answered common FAQs next to the services. And any speciality areas of mine will have links to more comprehensive pages.
Second Opinions
Even when you have a long term trusted doctor, sometimes it is nice to have another doctor look at your medical problem with a fresh set of eyes. I am comfortable giving second opinions on management of medical problems or decision making for patients. If you need this you will need to ensure that you have all pathology and radiology with you otherwise I cannot make an assessment until I have collected the data.

Full Health Check Ups and Preventative Health

These can include skin cancer screening, cervical smears, breast checks, STD checks, cardiovascular health, weight management, mental health, bone health, prostate problems, cancer prevention, smoking and alcohol problems.
There are various health checks recommended at different ages and it is quite complex and often related to your family history. I can screen you for what is appropriate for your age. It will often involve pathology and radiology tests.
Skin Cancer Screening, Skin Checks and Treatment for sunspots and skin cancers
Skin cancers can occur at any age and screening normally starts from 13 years upwards depending on family history and the type of skin that you have.
I have a dedicated treatment room available for all minor skin operations such as excisions and biopsies of suspicious lesions.
I recommend that if you are interested in a skin check then this should be a dedicated appointment as it can take some time to look at you from head to toe. Please be prepared to disrobe to underwear for these examinations.

Often times simple problems like ear infections or rashes that are quick consultations can be fitted in between patients but it is very important for you to inform my staff as to the nature of the problem so that I or one of my colleages can fit you in appropriately.
Difficult behaviour & Parenting advice
Being a parent is difficult in an era of excessive and often conflicting information on parenting.
I offer a 3 to 4 session parenting course that aids parents cut through the misinformation and aid parents to develop active parenting skills that allow them to parent intuitively rather than relying on what others tell them.
This is aimed at parents with children with difficult behaviours.
I find if parents have difficulty with childrens behaviour then often it is about adopting the correct parenting strategy for the child's personality. Additionally, a lot of child personality problems can also be linked to neurodiversity. I educate parents that different kids need different parenting strategies and I teach them these parenting strategies. I also show parents that neurotypical parenting does not always work for neurodiverse children

I am able to do shared care responsibilities with the public hospitals in our region.

Occupational Health
If you are injured at work or whilst travelling to or from work, you are entitled to Workers Compensation for the treatment costs of your injuries. Workcover Queensland is the main provider of compensation in Queensland, but some larger companies will have their own insurance companies.
I am able to manage all work related injuries but you will need to report the injury to your employer and then make an appointment to see myself for further paperwork.
There may be some upfront costs in your treatment, but once approved, Workcover will cover most medical costs involved in your treatment.
Driver's Medicals for Commercial Vehicles
Commercial Vehicle Licences require a specialised examination and preparation of paperwork.
You will need to bring in your existing licence and prepare the paperwork before you arrive.

Insurance Reports and Pre-Employment Medicals
Doctors are often asked to provide information to insurance companies for assessment of eligibility for Income Protection and Life Insurance reasons.
Unfortunately, patients are often unaware this happens and access to your records is given when you sign the application form. Please speak with your insurance broker about this.
I do not hand over your medical records without checking with you first.
Legal Reports
Doctors are often asked for a copy of your entire medical record by insurance companies and lawyers in the settlement for legal cases such as motor vehicle accident claims, and unfortunately patients are often unaware that they give this approval when they sign the claims forms.
My strict policy is not to hand over any medical records unless I have cleared it with the patient. Instead we offer the lawyers to simply write a report or a provide a copy of the consultation directly related to the incident.
Please speak with myself if you need further clarification on this.
